N3 Hosting Solutions
Hytec provides managed N3 hosting and infrastructure solutions to suit a wide range of public sector and private industry requirements.
Overview
The NHS’ N3 network is a vital tool for the NHS to facilitate the flow of information, and above all, to keep that information secure at all times. All NHS Trusts are connected to N3, and any organisation wishing to work with a Trust as a business partner or third party must ensure that they have the correct requirements as mandated by Connecting for Health (CfH) in terms of governance and infrastructure in order to provide these services.
Whether it be a requirement for hosting an N3 connection, or a complete service package encompassing the initial scoping of requirements through to handling the application and connection process, Hytec’s technical and governance teams can tailor our offerings to suit the needs of your organisation.
The requirement
N3 was never designed to be secure and as such is classed as an ‘untrusted’ network. Therefore, CfH has put in place guidance to ensure that third parties and NHS business partners use secure connections to N3, and the organisations connected to it, from potential threats.
To connect to N3, the following must be done:
agreements must be established with the N3 service provider, BT
IG Statement of Compliance (SoC) and Toolkit must be completed and submitted, along with
Logical Connection Architecture with supporting documentation.
Once the information governance team of the Department of Health (DoH) have approved the application, the connection to N3 will be granted.
