Joined-up Systems
There is a compelling need to break down barriers to information sharing across organisations working in the care sector
The remit for public sector bodies is changing considerably over the coming years and it’s imperative to ensure that the patients and citizens are put at the centre of a model where every professional dealing with their case, whether in social care, community care, mental or acute health, has the most up to date and comprehensive information available to them.
Not only does this provide a better standard of care but also positions organisations’ IT infrastructures to facilitate the adoption of new technologies in the future, for example, mobile working.
Hytec’s Integral Xchange™ product suite, comprising Integral Xhub™, Integral Xview™ and Integral Xindex™, offers health and social care organisations an unparalleled advantage in bringing together the case management information from a variety of disparate systems, displayed in varying formats into a single, real-time, uniform record, while still retaining the integrity of the original data sources.
Information can then be added to the combined record displayed in Integral Xview™ and saved back across the original systems in their own formats.
The level of flexibility afforded through implementing the Integral Xchange™ suite will allow health and social care functions to address existing and future challenges around growth and successful joined-up working approaches, as well as infrastructure and security considerations, including information governance compliance with GCSx and N3.
How does Integral Xchange™ work?
Integral Xchange™ is based upon service oriented architecture (SOA) which uses software services to collect and share data across disparate clinical systems, and pulls data into the conversion engine, Integral Xhub™. The data is then converted into a uniform, chronological structure and presented securely via a web browser in Integral Xview™ according to a pre-defined set of security policies (for example, role-based access controlled through two-factor authentication or NHS smartcard technology).
The case worker can view information across all the systems connected to Integral Xhub™, presented in an easy to use format, in date order. It can be added to, or updated, and then saved back across the original systems, in their original formats.
The benefits of such a solution in cases of vulnerable people could bring together information from GP, mental health, community health, social care, and police systems to give a holistic, one-stop platform for viewing and updating a variety of records on a person.

What are the benefits of Integral Xchange™ to a care organisation?
Hytec’s Integral Xchange™ platform provides essential benefits to the service-user, the IT function and senior management functions in both the short and long term:
- Integrated patient records- Seamlessly connects disparate systems, creating an integrated virtual patient record that can be viewed, edited, updated and saved across the original systems
- Trackable- Entries made into the virtual systems can record system and service provider activities, providing a full audit trail.
- Secure- Works in harmony with existing standards for information security for GCSx and N3, e.g. role-based access, two-factor authentication.
- End-to-end security- data is encrypted while in transit
- Scalable- Integral Xchange™ can be deployed in a single organisation and expanded to connect to other systems as and when required.
- Support- Hytec provides full user support and training should this be necessary during and after the roll-out phase.
The solution
Integral Xchange™ is part of Hytec’s ‘Projects’ portfolio, which includes a scoping assessment to determine the requirements and assess the IT infrastructure’s readiness for deployment, full project management during the network design and configuration and training and technical support during and after deployment.
