e-GIF
Compliance Audit
The
e-Government Interoperability Framework (e-GIF)
sets out the government's technical policies and
specifications for achieving interoperability
and information systems coherence across the public
sector. In essence, e-Gif defines the essentials
for achieving joined-up and web enabled government.
Adherence
to e-GIF specifications and policies is mandatory
for legacy systems involved with electronic service
delivery targets and for new systems for the exchange
of information between government systems and
the interactions between:
- UK
Government and citizens
- UK
Government and businesses (world wide)
- UK
Government organisations
- UK
Government and other governments (UK / EC, UK
/ US etc.)
Most organisations are focussed on the integration of applications across government departments, and developing new applications that can deliver information and services to the citizen electronically.
Hytec's focus is on the ICT infrastructure (everything below the application layer), and the security policy / systems that need to be in place to become compliant with e-GIF standards.
Hytec's
knowledge of information security (CLAS Consultancy,
BS7799 Compliance) and electronic infrastructures
(NHSnet Connection); allied to many years experience
of working with central and local government authorities;
provides the necessary understanding to review
an organisation's IT infrastructure and
identify corrective actions required to achieve
e-Gif compliance.
Hytec's e-GIF infrastructure compliance service audits all aspects of a local authority's physical ICT infrastructure, and identifies corrective actions required to achieve compliance with the e-GIF.
The service consists of the following main stages:
1. Management Overview
Initial discussion relating to the scope and compliance with e-GIF, with particular concentration on infrastructure. Commencement of the two way discovery phase between Hytec and Local Authority, describing the topology and in identifying likely areas for further investigation.
2. Technical Workshop
This is a pre-defined structured meeting looking at several areas including the topology, remote access, security etc. This follows an agenda designed to cover all aspects of e-Gif infrastructure and gives the local authority the opportunity to re-visit previous ad hoc infrastructure development. Also any performance or other issues can be raised at this point.
3. Report Production
Based on the information collected to date covering all of the items in the Technical Workshop with statements on compliance. The Report covers all the items in the agenda in a structured way with comments and recommendations from Hytec. It can include additional sections for information and education. This gives the local authority an external critical analysis of their overall situation relating to the e-Gif compliance of the infrastructure.
4. e-Gif and Strategy Review
Follow up and more detailed meeting from a position of knowledge from both sides. This is a meeting based on the Report and includes discussion on the alternatives available to resolve particular issues. It includes a comparison and an analysis of the standards and the existing infrastructure. It also needs to incorporate the ambitions of the authority and include future projects.
5. Implementation Phase
Project planning and prioritising what work needs to be undertaken. Includes kit lists and timescales. Agreed work patterns and skills transfer targets. Quotations are supplied for particular work and discussed with customer. Agreed partnership approach to projects, with Hytec and the Local Authority working together. |
