As
part of a remote managed service, delivered
since November 2002, Hytec Information
Security Limited is now responsible
for the security management of Securicor
Distribution's web hosting environment.
Re-branded during 2004 as DHL, the company
is a leading carrier of parcels, consignments
and freight throughout the UK and Europe.
Securicor Omega Express provides Same
Day Couriers, Field Logistics, Home
Delivery, Supply Chain and Freight Management
services.
The constant availability of electronic
services, delivered through the www.securicor-omega.com
website, is a crucial element of the
company's overall service. Customers
can now book Omega Express services
online, and track the delivery status
of parcels and items at any time of
the day, anywhere in the world.
Electronic trading and the delivery
of online services are now fully
integrated into the business. However,
like every company reliant on Internet-delivered
services, Securicor/DHL is aware of
the dangers posed by any unauthorised
access to its systems or data, for example:
commercial espionage of company data,
fraudulent access to customer shipment
details, denial of service attacks (DOS),
defacement of website code and other
security breaches.
To counter all the above, Securicor
Distribution requested Hytec - as specialists
in information security - to design
and implement a secure environment for
their web hosting, then manage the security
on a 24x7 service basis. Hytec's managed
service now authenticates access to
Omega Express online services, provides
high availability of the company's web
sites, protects the onfidentiality of
both customer and company data and assures
the integrity of DHL's internal systems.
Postscript - On 3 July 2003, Deutsche
Post World Net, the owners of DHL, acquired
a 100% shareholding in Securicor Distribution.
Along with two other major Deutsche
Post companies, Danzas and Euro Express,
Securicor Distribution has now been
rebranded under the DHL banner.
