Working
in Social Care
Hytec's
involvement with the Social Care sector is extensive.
The company works closely with individual
Directors of Social Services, the ADSS (the Association
of Directors of Social Services) and the ADSS
IMG, the Information Management Group that advises
the ADSS on information management issues relevant
to Councils with Social Services Responsibilities
(CSSRs).
Our
CSSR customers value our understanding of their
requirements, our pedigree in local government
and our specialism in both information security
and connecting to the NHSnet.
London
Connects
A
report on connectivity between local and health
authorities in London, co-authored by Hytec, came
out strongly in favour of adopting a London-wide
strategy for the early delivery of inter-agency
working and a major investment in information-sharing
systems to support frontline services.
Commissioned
by the ADSS IMG, and funded by the Department
of Health Information for Social Care initiative,
the survey investigated the options available
for joining up systems and organisations. principally,
but not exclusively, between social care and health.
Based
on face-to-face interviews with a sample of London
social care authorities, the report includes detailed
questionnaires which can be used as checklists
by agencies across the country seeking to connect
to health systems via NHSnet.
Sally Holland, Head of Strategic Services for
the Social Services Directorate, London Borough
of Tower Hamlets, welcomed the successful completion
of the project on behalf of ADSS IMG: "This
report is a major contribution to the development
of inter-agency working, not just in London but
throughout the UK. The government has set ambitious
targets for improving services to children and
the elderly. A common and comprehensive commitment
to joined-up working demands investment. The report
shows the way forward to achieving those targets
in practical terms."

Supporting
Caldicott Guardians
Hytec
also maintains close working relationships with
the community of Caldicott Guradians.
Caldicott
Guardians are senior staff in the NHS and
social services appointed to protect the confidentiality
of personal and patient information. All councils
with a social services responsibility should
have a Caldicott Guardian to safeguard and
govern the uses made of confidential information
within NHS organisations.
The
Caldicott Guardian, working with the Data
Protection Officer and information security
or other support staff, is responsible for
agreeing and reviewing internal protocols
governing the protection and use of patient-identifiable
information. The Guardian is also responsible
for ensuring that these protocols address
the requirements of national policy and
law, and that their operation is fully monitored.
Hytec
supports this role by the provision of security
audits, the creation of security policies
and information security management systems
(ISMS), the development of Codes of Connection
and the design of connections to the NHSnet.
