As part of its strategy to work
with 'best-of-breed' security technology
suppliers, Hytec has forged a close
working alliance with Blue Coat Systems,
the California-based leader in secure
proxy technology. With 33% market share
(more than triple that of its nearest
competitor), IDC recognises Blue Coat
as the clear leader in Secure Content
Management Appliances.
The first product of this alliance
is a Web Traffic Assessment Service.
Hytec's new service identifies security
threats introduced through internal
usage of the Internet. Utilising Blue
Coat's ProxySG secure proxy appliance,
installed seamlessly within a client
network, Hytec consultants are able
to monitor all web traffic (24x7) and
provide a detailed report of Internet
usage. The report identifies web content
accessed, Instant Messaging (IM) abuse,
and usage of browser-based applications,
employee productivity issues, legal
liabilities (if any), security vulnerabilities
and network bandwidth issues.
Within a week, clients can review
their organisation's use of the Internet
and identify any security threats introduced,
such as:
- Web-based applications that evade
common perimeter defences (such as
firewalls)
- User activities that provide an
open door to external threats or those
that potentially compromise the confidentiality
of information held
- Web content that poses a legal liability
to your organisation
The Assessment service will provide
a realistic view of ALL web traffic.
The new service will ascertain whether
internal access to the Internet is putting
the organisation at risk; of security
breaches, low staff productivity, legal
liability or abuse of network resources.
Clients will learn about user activities
with web-based applications, file transfers,
the presence of spyware and the use
of rogue applications. They are provided
a baseline to understand risks and what
needs monitoring and further control.
If a problem is detected, Hytec's consultant
will scope the problem and recommend
appropriate remedial action. If required
by the client, as a next step, the Hytec
consultant can also conduct a cost/benefit
analysis to help the client justify
any remedial expenditure.
